Lions All State Band Tour/Camp – Packing List

Passport and Visa

Picture ID (state ID, Drivers License or photo school ID)

1 suitcase (NO more then 40 lbs and 60 linear inches)

1 carry-on, plus possibly your instrument

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.

Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.

Extra reeds, valve oil, slide grease- etc.

Flip Folio, and enough pages for all your music

Travel uniforms- shirts, shorts, and ALL white ankle socks (NOT no-show)

ALL WHITE tennis shoes

If you need to wear a belt, plain black

Solid navy jacket or sweatshirt - no trim or logos (Lions apparel from past years acceptable) 

If you want to wear a sweatshirt or jacket on tour, it must fit into the above restrictions

Performance Schedule

 

The price for the 2013 tour is $2,885 per student.

Students are responsible for payment of their tour fees, and installments are due by the dates listed in the payment schedule.  The tour fee covers all transportation, meals, tours and admissions for the entire trip beginning with the pre-tour rehearsal in June.  In addition, it covers the cost of the basic travel uniform and souvenir recordings of the band.

 

Tour fee includes:
All rehearsals meals
Accommodations and meals during 4-day pre-tour band camp at ADRIAN College
Roundtrip transportation
Hotel accommodations while on tour
All tour admissions
All meals and gratuities while on tour
Two travel uniforms (band shirt, shorts and socks)

 

 

Audition Information

Auditions for the 2013 Lions of Michigan All State Band will be held on June 3, 2012 and June 10, 2012 at Ovid-Elsie High School between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Two ways to try out, in person or with an audition tape. (Please note that percussionists and visual ensemble must try out in person.) Contact us for more information.

 

Who is Eligible to Audition?

Michigan students who are currently in grades 9 through 12 and members of their local high school band are eligible to audition.  Performers may audition on any marching band wind or percussion instrument.  Students may also audition for color guard or dance positions.  Percussion and visual performers MUST audition at Ovid-Elsie.

 

Important Information about Auditions

Students on wind instruments will prepare an etude (which can be downloaded from the "Rehearsals and Auditions" page on this website) and a chromatic scale.  Students will also perform the concert Ab, Eb, Bb, F and C major scales.  Sight-reading may be administered.  Taped auditions are permitted.

Percussion auditions will consist of a prepared etude supplied by our percussion instructor, rudiments as appropriate, and sight-reading.  It is imperative that students auditioning on percussion try out in person. 

Visual/Dance ensemble applicants will be taught short routines and evaluated on the basis of how well they are able to learn them.  It's recommended that students who audition for visual ensemble have a background in color guard, but it is not mandatory.  Students auditioning for the visual ensemble must try out in person.

 The band staff is seeking a broad range of performance levels.  This is not an honors band, and they are seeking individuals at all playing levels.  Applicants should not feel threatened by the audition process.
