The Lions of Michigan Service Foundation

The Lions of Michigan Foundation is a public charity that was created in 1984 to help Michigan Lions Clubs provide community services.  We work in partnership with our member Lions Clubs and other organizations to provide disadvantaged individuals and families with access to affordable medical care and services designed to help improve their quality of life.

While our programs encompass many areas, through screening, diagnosis, treatment, education and research, we primarily help underserved populations and financially struggling individuals who require assistance with eye care, hearing aids or an unexpected life event.  Our services are offered statewide with a focus on helping Michigan residents succeed academically, develop normally, maintain independence and prosper in life.

LIONS AND LEADER DOG

Leader Dogs for the Blind believes that everyone deserves a life of independence and mobility. All of their services are provided free of charge to their clients, including travel in the U.S. and Canada, room and board, equipment and training. This means that no one is excluded from living their most fulfilling life due to lack of funds.

Leader Dog programs are designed to provide people who are blind or visually impaired with the tools and training to reintroduce them to a life of confidence, safety and independence. Through their full-range of services- Guide Dog Training, Orientation & Mobility Training and Summer Experience Camp they meet the mobility needs of their clients at every stage of their life.

Leader Dogs for the Blind is 100% philanthropically funded by individual donors, Lions clubs, corporate partners and foundations. Simply put, they could not provide over one million days of independence each year without the immense generosity of their supporters, especially the Lions Clubs of Michigan.

In 1978, the Lions of Michigan All-State Band was formed as a musical ensemble to accompany the incoming Lions International President, Ralph A. Lynam, who happened to be from St. John's, Michigan. Since its inception, the band has attended and performed at the annual Lions Clubs International convention each year by marching in the Lions International Parade, with more than 10,000 delegates in attendance.

Students from over 300 Michigan high schools and communities have participated in the band since it took its first marching high-steps, and now averages 45-75 students each year. The number of students is on the rise, and the band has now set its sights on achieving a goal of more than 150 high school student musicians in uniform.

As the band continues to grow, so does its commitment to serving communities throughout the state of Michigan, and the world, through the gift of music.
